The coupon information corp. comments on "Extreme Couponing"
TLC recently came out with a new show; Extreme Couponing. I, as many other couponers, feel that this show is unrealistic and shows people being greedy and misusing coupons- to the point of committing fraud.
The CIC, Coupon Information Corp. is a non profit association that fights coupon fraud and misuse. This is their comment on the show:
"
The Coupon Information Corporation (CIC) expresses our great disappointment with TLC’s current series, Extreme Couponing, and hereby offers our expertise and other assistance to TLC and Sharp Entertainment (which produces the show) to enhance the program with more accurate and realistic information. In addition, we hope they address potentially illegal acts that appear to have been portrayed on the show.
Professionals in the coupon industry believe this show creates unrealistic expectations about how coupons work and promotes the misuse of coupons. For example, the show appears to portray coupons being used in violation of the terms and conditions printed on the coupons, such as using coupons to obtain products other than those specified by the coupon offer, and focuses on consumers who have procured large quantities of coupon inserts from unknown sources, which may raise civil and/or criminal issues.
In real life, individuals attempting to use such large quantities of coupons or attempting to use them in violation of the terms stated on the coupons would most likely have their coupons refused at the register or, depending on the circumstances, be investigated by law enforcement. According to media reports, TLC recently stated,
“While the series documents extreme couponing strategies, we take any concerns about specific tactics seriously and are looking into the situation.” We look forward to hearing what TLC discovers.
The CIC’s and other industry experts’ previous offers of assistance to the producers to make this an educational show were previously turned down. Nevertheless, we stand ready to help in the event the producers or TLC reconsider their path and seek to turn this into a show that accurately reflects appropriate coupon strategies and use, which would result in real benefits for TLC’s viewing audience."

Great Deal on Mothers Day Gift
Where can I find coupons?
This is a question I get a lot and one of my answers is "The store!". Whenever I am shopping I ALWAYS look out for coupons. So, today I went to Lowes Foods to get some taco shells (my stockpile ran out and they were on sale we want to celebrate Cinco De Mayo with them tomorrow!). Here is what I found as I walked the store. Now, in my humble opinion, taking ALL the coupons is just plain wrong. I take 2-3 depending on the item.
This was in the cold meat case. .50 off 1 package of Johnsonville chicken sausage.
This was by the deli meats: $1 off eggs or produce WYB (2) Oscar Mayer fully cooked bacon
This was on a beer display near the meats- $2 off $4 purchase of Wisconsin artisan cheese
Beer aisle: $5 rebate on any 2 lb+ purchase of shrimp
Beer aisle: $1/2 24 pks of water or any ice purchase of $5+
Spring savings booklet in the cereal aisle: 15 $1 coupons for cheerios, kix, fiber one or total, trix, yoplait, chex mix, nature valley, yoplait kids, betty crocker brownies, bisquick, hamburger helper, suddenly sald, el paso, pillsbury
I didn't take pictures but I found these as well: .75 Butterball breakfast sausage and $1/2 lbs Tyson wings and $1 off Marzetti Veggie Dips AND $1 off Tostitos chips and salsa!
I found 9 different coupons and I didn't even go to every aisle! I just went to the meat, cereals, International and beer (My first stop ALWAYS in the summer due to the rebates and coupons- the water/ice, cheese and shrimp are all beer coupons but in NC no beer purchase is required!)

My trip:
I got:
tostitos chips
Tostitos salsa
3 ivory bars
4 mahatma rice (I only used 3 coupons per policy though- I'll tell you why at the bottom)
1 twin pack Mr. Clean eraser
1 snickers bar (.99!! WHAT>??)
Total value: $20.91
OOP: .95
Now here is why: I actually went NEGATIVE on this order. I had a credit of over $1 so I had to "eat it up". I added another rice which brought my negative to .06. I asked my sister to grab me the cheapest candy, thinking something over there had to be 50 cents- 65 cents. No, she grabbed a .99 Snickers bar. So my complete total was .95! Still not shabby!
IF you have a Harris Teeter raincheck for 5.99 Pampers.....
