Harris Teeter Super Doubles are COMING...get prepared!

Rumor has it that Harris Teeter Super Doubles are coming up starting Wednesday, Nov. 3.  Here are some VERY helpful tips to get prepared:

  • When out shopping, at the grocery store, gas station or even big box stores- if you see a coupon- Take it!  I'm not talking about stealing the peelies (those actually attached to a product) but the ones in the blinking Smart Source boxes hanging off the shelves or on tear off pads around the store.  You might not use them today, but you might next week!
  • Check out all the online coupon places and print off the ones you will use now, before they are gone!  These coupon limits often get reached VERY fast during super doubles or triples, so print now, save later!  Also, be sure to print in black only to save that colored ink!
  • Check your rain checks.  During super doubles or triples you can almost guarantee that they will run out of something that you were planning on buying.  Check your rain checks now to see if there is something you can use on this trip to save even more!
  • If you get the newspaper there are other places than just the Smart Source and Red Plum inserts with coupons.  Often the Parade magazine has one or two.  Also, a lot of monthly magazines have coupons too!
  • Check the products you already are using or done with using.  For example I just bought some Adam & Eve juice boxes at Lowes Foods (they were on sale and combined with my coupon they were about 50 cents for 8 boxes!)  I was about to throw the plastic wrap away when I saw on the inside of the cover was a 55 cent off coupon!  It is good for a long time!  Often there will be coupons where you least expect them!

Saved 93% on my grocery trip today!

I went to Harris Teeter this morning armed with my coupon list.  I ended up spending a total (from 3 transactions) of $3.67.  The actual price of the items I purchased was $52.31.  That is a savings of 93%!  I think it is my best EVER...for now!

Here is a picture of one of my receipts.  You can see I actually paid in cash 38 cents and saved $18.65!

Here is what I bought for $3.67:
6 Vitamin Waters (1.59 regular price EACH)
2 Colgate Toothpastes (regular price $2.85 EACH)
2 Wolfgang Puck Organic Soups ($3.25 each)
Mini chocolate donuts (2.69 - my treat to my kids for being good)
Marshmellows (.97)
3 Campbell Cooking soups (1.28 each)
2 Idahoan Mashed Potatoes (1.25 each)
5 lb. sugar (2.99)
1 bag M&Ms (had to buy since my total actually went into the negative!!)
5 boxes Jolly time Popcorn (2.69 each)
Country Crock Margarine (2.29)
I think that this was an AMAZING trip!  I needed the sugar, so it was like I bought the sugar and got everything else free!  We might not have a need right now for these items- but they were free.  Sometimes I take my overstock and offer it free on craigslist.com or freecycle.org.

Helping you help your self --SAVE moola!

As a stay at home mom, I don't bring any actual **moola** into our household.  In fact, I am the one shelling it out.  Shelling out moola to the school for field trips, to the grocery store for food, to the department store for clothes for the family.

So, I feel it is part of my job to shell out the least amount of moola for the most, and best, items my family needs.  That is why I am starting this blog.  Everyone is always amazed at how I can walk out of the grocery store with 4 sacks full of food that we actually use and eat having spent pennies on the dollar!

So, I am going to record what I buy, where and how I got it so cheap.  My goal is to inspire you to come up with the ways that work the best for you to save your family the most money while still providing them with everything they need (with a bunch of treats thrown in!).
