Is Super Doubles (or triples) Always the best deal?

I get SO excited when Super doubles or triples come around but I really wanted to share something.

Sometimes it is NOT the best deal to use that $1 coupon or that coupon that will triple.  Here is why.

Someone was asking my opinion on whether they should use certain coupons that will double at Harris Teeter this week.  Sometimes the answer was maybe yes/maybe no- but certain coupons were a resounding NO!

Here are a few examples:

Progresso Soups
Have a $1/4 coupon
They are $2.79 each at Harris Teeter
  • 2.79 * 4= $11.16
  • minus $1 coupon doubled= $9.16 total (savings 22%)

They are B1G1 free at Lowes Foods with a total of $1.40 each
  • $1.40 * 4= $5.60
  • Minus $1 coupon= $4.60
  • Even better- add the .50/1 digital coupon to your card and it makes the final tally $4.10
  • That is a savings of 63.3% or $5.06 cents LESS than you would have paid at Harris Teeter even with the doubled coupon!!!
Another example:
Kraft Shredded Cheese
Have $1/2 coupon
Harris Teeter:
  • Price $3.69 each * 2= $7.38
  • Minus $1 Doubled coupon= $5.38 total

Lowes Foods:
  • Price 2 for $5= $5 total
  • Minus $1 coupon= $4
  • Pay $1 less for 2 bags @ Lowes Foods

ANOTHER example (can you tell I was having fun??)
Sorrento Stringsters Snack Cheese
$1 coupon

Harris Teeter
  • $4.99 each
  • minus $1 coupon doubled= $2.99
Lowes Foods

  •  On sale for $2.50 each
  • minus $1 coupon= 1.50 each
SO even without doubled coupons you will save 50% over doubled coupon final prices on the string cheese!

in ad $4 off coupon= $5.50
-.50/2 doubled= $4.50
-.50/2 doubled= $3.50
Get a $2 catalina back

NOT a bad deal at all!

Lowes Foods Launches Digital Coupons***Updated**

Lowes Foods posted that they have launched a digital coupon program where you attach coupons to your card.  I was SO excited until......I read that you cannot combine the digital one with a paper coupon.

According to Lowes Foods Face Book (in response to my inquiry) You CAN stack these coupons and them saying you can't is just a "precaution". No idea what that means except WE CAN stack! YAY.

They are also offering printed coupons from their website that seem to be powered by www.coupons.com.

Check it out here is the link Lowes Food Digital Coupons.
